The Boqueria market does not stop the loss of visitors due to the Rambla works

The municipal market of La Boqueria in Barcelona recorded around eleven million visitors between January and June 2026 at its main entrances, with a peak of two million visits throughout the month of May. These data show the decline in visitors to this unique facility, a decrease mainly caused by the works on La Rambla. The truth is that these works made access to this market very difficult. During 2024, the facility in the Raval neighborhood had around 25 million visitors, and last year it did not exceed 23.5 million. The latest recorded data do not predict a return to normality in the coming months. The government of Mayor Jaume Collboni trusts that this long-awaited renovation will be completed by mid-February next year.

La Boqueria launched the Boqueria Digital project eight months ago. The market is developing this initiative in partnership with the company TC Group Solutions with the aim of having precise information on how movements are distributed within its facilities and how visit patterns evolve over time. According to Jordi Mas, president of the professionals of La Boqueria, who detailed this on Thursday, this project allows the facility to improve its management. “We move from intuition to real awareness. Modern management needs metrics to have its own precise data on entries, exits, and movements within the market.”
