The Local Police of Mataró arrested a confessed arsonist in the early hours of this Wednesday after causing three separate fire outbreaks on the C-32 highway.

A trailer driver traveling on the highway was the one who alerted 112 about a fire as he passed through Mataró. During the call to emergency services, the driver reported that at the point where he could see the flames there was a person. The driver was able to give a physical description of the man who had caused the fire.
Thanks to his cooperation, the Local Police quickly went to the scene to attend the emergency and search for the individual. The officers saw a man matching the given description and followed him to a nearby parking area. Once there, he was intercepted and arrested.

According to the Mataró City Council, the arsonist spontaneously confessed to causing three fire outbreaks at three different kilometer points on the C-32, burning: 100 m² at km 99.300; 10 m² at km 99.750; and 200 m² at km 100.200.
Two units of the Generalitat Firefighters moved to the area and extinguished the fires. The Mossos d’Esquadra have taken charge of the detainee pending judicial proceedings.
