Begoña Gómez, wife of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has informed Judge Juan Carlos Peinado that she is changing lawyers for the upcoming jury trial she will face, for which she is being asked to serve 13 years in prison, according to legal sources.

According to these sources, Begoña Gómez, in mutual agreement with her lawyer Antonio Camacho, has decided and informed the court that from now on her legal defense will be assumed by Campaner, a lawyer who has been present, among others, in trials such as the Nóos case or the trial of the Pujol family.
This decision comes after the Provincial Court of Madrid confirmed that Pedro Sánchez’s wife must sit on the defendant’s bench, before a jury court, for the crimes of influence peddling and embezzlement of public funds.
She is accused of having taken advantage of her relationship with the Prime Minister to advance her career, achieving the creation of an extraordinary chair at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) “irregularly.” Furthermore, both the judge and the accusations maintain that various private companies financed this project and developed software that “the accused tried to register in her name.”
