A worker, about 30 years old, died this Wednesday and two others were injured after being crushed by metal train maintenance machinery at the Renfe Comprehensive Maintenance Base located in the Madrid district of Villaverde.

The events occurred around 2:20 p.m. at the Renfe-Adif facilities, where Samur-Civil Protection health workers and Madrid Municipal Police officers were dispatched due to an incident that is now being investigated as a workplace accident.

Three workers were involved in the incident, one of whom was unconscious upon the arrival of medical personnel and subsequently died, according to police sources. The other two injured workers suffered fractures of varying severity.
The investigation is now in the hands of the Judicial Coordination Commissioner’s Office of the Madrid Municipal Police, while Renfe has reported that it will also conduct an internal investigation to clarify the circumstances of what happened.

The company has issued a statement lamenting the death of the worker, who belonged to a contracting company that provided services at the base, and has extended its condolences to the victim’s family, colleagues, and loved ones.
According to information available to Renfe, the accident occurred during maintenance work for reasons that are being investigated. The company will launch an internal investigation to prevent similar incidents from happening again in the future.
