Cines Callao in Madrid will celebrate its centenary this Wednesday with a free screening of the film ‘Back to the Future’ in Callao square, where it will move the cinematic experience outside its halls for one night.

According to Bucket, the initiative will use the main outdoor screen of the cinemas so that the screening can be seen “from all corners of the square” and is part of the commemoration of Cines Callao’s 100th anniversary.
164 seats will be placed in the street
Callao square will be transformed for one night into an open-air cinema with capacity for 164 people, who will have seats to watch the screening. Attendees will find popcorn and water in their seats, while the doors will open at 9:00 PM and the film will start at 9:30 PM.
Access will be free and seats will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis until full capacity is reached, while spectators may bring their own food and drink, although alcoholic beverages will not be permitted.

The organization explained that the initiative aims to move the cinematic experience beyond the halls and transform Callao square for a few hours into a space dedicated to open-air cinema.
Likewise, it noted that the open-air cinema is born as a “gesture of gratitude” to the citizens who, for one hundred years, have made Cines Callao an “emblem” of the city and a meeting point for several generations.
The proposal also champions the value of public spaces as places for culture and revives one of the summer traditions most linked to cinema.
