Three seriously injured and two lightly injured in a car explosion on a street in Lleida

An explosion inside a vehicle parked on Lluís Companys street in Lleida this Saturday has caused injuries to a total of 5 people, including the driver and four pedestrians who were in the area at the time of the incident.

The driver and two pedestrians have been seriously injured and are recovering well, while the other two people are in a mild condition, reports the Lleida City Council in a statement.

Following the alert, several units of the Bombers de la Generalitat and patrols of the Mossos d’Esquadra, as well as six SEM ambulances, have been dispatched to the scene of the explosion, organizations report in posts on ‘X’ collected by Europa Press.

All the injured have been taken to the Arnau de Vilanova Hospital in Lleida, and the exact causes of the incident are under investigation by the Mossos d’Esquadra.

According to the initial hypotheses of the police forces, the deflagration could have been caused by the use of an aerosol inside the vehicle, which would have ignited upon contact with some electrical element.

The mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa, has assured that he will follow “the evolution” of the events and also the final conclusions of the investigation.
