The Mossos d’Esquadra have fired at the vehicle of a repeat offender who tried to escape by running them over this afternoon around 4 p.m. on Torrent del Gornal street in l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, a very busy road. But when the Mossos tried to stop him, the driver decided to flee. After a chase, the police managed to corner him. The only possible escape route was to run over the officers. And this is what almost happened, police sources explained.
At that moment, one of the officers decided to shoot at the car to stop its progress, trying to damage the tires or other parts without aiming directly at the person who tried to flee. The shots were fired from a very close distance to the vehicle, which ended up damaged and also later crashed into an object on the public road.

In any case, the repeat offender was arrested. According to the Mossos d’Esquadra, no injuries occurred due to the incident. Neither the detainee, the officers, nor the passersby on Torrent del Gornal were harmed.
Other sources aware of the incident indicated that the person who tried to escape by harming the Mossos was driving accompanied by a woman against whom he had a restraining order.
