The City Council dismantles the largest illegal terrace in Barcelona again

A few days ago, technicians from the Barcelona City Council dismantled again, table by table and chair by chair, what has been known for several years as the largest illegal terrace in the city. This is another consequence of the tourist overcrowding that affects this side of Barcelona.

In mid-June, La Vanguardia reported that a restaurant located in the narrow Trinitat passage, at number 10 Avinyó Street, in the Gothic Quarter, had taken over this unique street by installing more than twenty tables and eighty chairs without any municipal permit, operating in such a blatant manner for several weeks.

And it wasn’t the first time they did it. At the end of 2022, the City Council celebrated dismantling this outdoor seating area once and for all, after carrying out numerous inspections and processing a series of files. Apparently, for these restaurateurs, it was much more cost-effective to be fined than to dismantle their clandestine setup.

On this occasion, the government of Mayor Jaume Collboni preferred to act more discreetly and did not publicize their action. However, municipal sources confirmed that on Tuesday, technicians went to the site a few days ago and took away the said tables and chairs in a truck. At this moment, only some chalkboards and signs remain from the terrace in question.
