Pedro Sánchez undoubtedly has many problems to face amid the flood of legal cases affecting his family and political environment. But one of these concerns, according to sources at Moncloa, is not the possibility that the PNV and Junts join a motion of no confidence promoted by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, with the indispensable votes of the far-right Vox, to try to overthrow the Prime Minister.

The Government spokesperson, Elma Saiz, accused the leader of the Popular Party this Tuesday of “cynicism and desperation” for now seeking the PNV and Junts to try to reach the head of the Executive without going through elections. “Feijóo has been insulting the different political forces for eight years,” Saiz warned, referring to the PP’s criticisms against the PNV and Junts.
In the same vein, the Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, questioned that the PP now wants “to ask Junts and the PNV for help, after what they have said about them.”
The Government, Saiz assured, respects the parliamentary plurality that emerged from the 2023 polls, and is translating it into agreements and laws that “move the country forward.” On the other hand, she stressed that the PP’s agreements with Vox imply the exact opposite: “Setbacks and cuts.”

“Feijóo’s cynicism is at its maximum, and only shows his desperation,” they confirm at Moncloa. In their view, the PP leader “is desperate to reach the Government.” But, they emphasize, “you only get to the Government by votes, not shortcuts.” “And Feijóo doesn’t have votes even for a motion of no confidence,” they conclude.
Government sources maintain that neither the PNV nor Junts will ever be willing to “commit political suicide” for Feijóo, supporting him in a motion of no confidence against Sánchez that must also include the far-right Vox to succeed. “Feijóo’s turnaround in barely 24 hours is a joke, it’s not credible,” they criticize.
