Catalonia was the top tourist destination in Spain in April. The autonomous community received 1.88 million visitors, 7.7% more than in the same month of the previous year. It represents 20.8% of the total visitors to the country in the fourth month of the year.

In April alone, Spain attracted 9.1 million international tourists, 5.2% more than in the same month of 2025.
Total tourist spending in Catalonia amounted to 2.216 billion
Total spending by international tourists in the fourth month of 2026 amounted to 11.686 billion euros, an increase of 7.4% compared to the same month in 2025. Catalonia was also the autonomous community with the highest share of tourist spending in April, with 19% of the total. Spending amounted to 2.216 billion euros, 10.8% more than in the same month of the previous year.
The average spending per tourist amounted to 1,174 euros, 2.9% more. The daily average decreased by 5.4%, to 203 euros, but the average length of the trip approached six days, 8.7% more.
Spain received almost 26.6 million international tourists during the first four months of the year, representing a growth of 3.4% compared to the same period in 2025.
According to data published this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), this flow of visitors spent 36.703 billion euros between January and April, an increase of 6.7% over the same period in 2025.

United Kingdom and France are the main source countries
“These April data confirm a first four-month period in which spending growth remains above the increase in the pace of arrivals,” highlighted the Ministry of Industry and Tourism.
The main source countries in the first four months of the year were the United Kingdom (with nearly 4.9 million visitors and an increase of 2.5%), France (with more than 3.3 million and a decrease of 1.8%), and Germany (with nearly 3.3 million, 2.8% less).
The United Kingdom was also the country with the highest accumulated spending between January and April, with 15.1% of the total. It was followed by Germany (12.2%) and France (7.6%).
In the accumulated total of the first four months of the year, the communities that received the most tourists were the Canary Islands (5.7 million and an increase of 0.2% compared to the same period in 2025), Catalonia (5.4 million and an increase of 0.8%), and Andalusia (4.2 million, 6.3% more).
In the first four months of the year, the communities with the highest accumulated spending were the Canary Islands (with 23.8% of the total), Catalonia (17.7%), and the Community of Madrid (16.3%).
