Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the Army on Monday to attack targets in Dahiye, Hezbollah’s stronghold in the southern suburbs of Beirut. According to a statement released by his office, the decision was made together with Defense Minister Israel Katz, in response to the “repeated violations of the ceasefire” by the Shiite militia and the attacks launched against cities in northern Israel.

Despite the ceasefire reached in mid-April, clashes between Israel and Hezbollah have continued. In recent weeks, the Lebanese militia has increased the use of low-cost suicide drones against Israeli positions in southern Lebanon and northern Israel.
Israeli troops are already deep inside Lebanese territory. On Sunday, the Army published images of the Star of David flag waving over the medieval Beaufort fortress, key to controlling the southern part of the country, where Hezbollah maintains much of its military arsenal.

The war in Lebanon, considered the main regional extension of the conflict with Iran, has caused the displacement of more than 1.2 million people since March, according to official data. Lebanese authorities estimate more than 3,370 deaths due to the Israeli offensive, while Israel claims to have lost 24 soldiers and four civilians during the same period.
