This new case corresponds, according to Health sources, to a close contact identified within the epidemiological monitoring activated after the initial detection of the outbreak.

It is the second passenger of the ‘Hondius’ to suffer the disease. The aforementioned sources indicate that at this moment he is asymptomatic. The first case, detected upon arrival in Madrid, is evolving favorably.

After the diagnostic confirmation, the patient was transferred to the High-Level Isolation Unit (UATAN) of Gómez Ulla, where he will remain hospitalized under specialized medical supervision and with the biosecurity measures foreseen for this type of case.

The health authorities emphasize that the detection of the case occurred within the isolation and control device already activated, so it does not change the risk situation for the general population nor alter the epidemiological response measures currently underway.

The rest of the passengers have tested negative, so they will continue on the “normal” floor, sharing spaces and with visits from relatives; however, all with their respective protective equipment. Next week they will undergo a new PCR test and, if on June 8 they still test negative, they will be able to finish the isolation at home (after 28 days, as established by the protocol).

Additionally, the 32-year-old woman isolated in the San Juan de Alicante hospital, the first admitted in Spain on suspicion of hantavirus, has tested negative on the PCR test for the fifth consecutive time and since this Monday continues quarantine at home.

The woman who remained hospitalized in the isolation unit of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona for being a hantavirus contact with one of the deceased also tested negative on the third PCR performed on her, and continues quarantine at home for 14 days.
