A two-year-old girl has died inside her father’s vehicle, who left her there for most of the day after not taking her to daycare and forgetting that the girl was in the car. According to La Voz de Galicia, the father parked the vehicle and went straight to work, not realizing that the child was still in his care.

The incident occurred in the municipality of Brión in A Coruña. The father did drop off the older son at school early Wednesday morning, but, according to the Galician newspaper, he answered a phone call while driving that made him forget his daughter was still in the car. He went to his office, leaving the child exposed to the high temperatures of the day and dehydration.
The mother went to pick up the child from daycare at 3:00 p.m. and did not find her. Only then did the father of the two-year-old girl realize what was happening. Emergency services were alerted, who transferred the child to the PAC of Bertamiráns (Ames) where she went into cardiorespiratory arrest and died.

Agents from the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard, who are responsible for investigating what happened, went to the scene. According to La Voz de Galicia, the girl’s family lives above the business where the father works. The daycare the girl attended, which is the municipal one in Brión, is not far from the home.
