The "forced" step of Isak Andic before falling into the void, clue in the investigation

A detail stands out in the investigation into the death of Isak Andic, founder of Mango, during a walk with his son Jonathan in Montserrat in December 2024. It is the trace of the alleged slip that caused what could have been an accidental fall, which has become one of the clues the judge uses to understand that what happened that day was not an accident.

According to the judge’s order, the mountain unit mossos carried out up to four reconstructions of that footprint. It is the same conclusion as their fellow investigators, that it was a “forced” footprint and that Isak Andic would have had to rub intensely against the ground up to four times to leave that mark. This would have had to be done “deliberately, applying pressure to the ground, (…) this mark cannot be made by chance,” the order states. With a single slip, that footprint cannot be generated.

In the order, the judge points out that the mark was recreated to make it seem that this was where the slip or accidental fall occurred. The path did not require specific footwear and had no difficulty or “exposure to falling,” except at the point where the events took place. The autopsy report states that the body had injuries incompatible with an accidental fall, and that the fall was “as if he had slid down a slide, feet first.” Jonathan visited the area up to three times in the same week the death occurred.

The background of the possible homicide would have economic motivations. The magistrate cites Isak Andic’s intention to make a change to his will and create a foundation to help disadvantaged people as the turning point. Jonathan, according to third parties and messages on the father’s phone, had an “obsession with money” and managed to have part of his inheritance transferred to him during his lifetime as a condition to maintain the family relationship.

The deceased businessman’s son was arrested yesterday and released after posting bail of one million euros. After a year and a half of investigation, the judge of court 5 of Martorell listed a long list of clues with which she understands there is “premeditation and preparation in the death.” Another point the judge focuses on is the contradictions about the distance at which father and son were walking at the time of the fall. In an initial statement, Jonathan said they were apart and did not see the moment of the fall, but saw the father already rolling among bushes. In a later statement, he said they were together, but he also would not have seen him fall, something the judge considers “unlikely.”
