Wes Streeting, British Secretary of Health and representative of the right wing of the Labour Party, has resigned to presumably run as an alternative to Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Streeting is a man close to “Blairism” who led the party for years and a figure opposed to other politicians with chances to replace Starmer such as Andy Burnham, Mayor of Manchester, or Angela Rayner, the party’s virtual number two before her resignation, in 2025.

Streeting now needs to secure the support of at least 81 MPs to carry forward his proposal.
