The purchase of Renfe’s new trains to renew its rolling stock is progressing at different rates depending on the manufacturer. The first units for the Madrid commuter rail network, which are coming out of the Stadler plant, are already undergoing final tests at a testing center in Albacete.

If all goes well, the first five 100 and 200-meter units will enter service at the end of summer, after the corresponding homologation, simulation tests, trials under different operating conditions, and driver training. Throughout 2026, it is expected that up to 17 new trains of the 79 that Renfe ordered from Stadler will be progressively incorporated, and deliveries will continue monthly in 2027.
The trains that are to renew Rodalies, on the other hand, are being manufactured by Alstom at the Santa Perpètua de Mogoda plant and will arrive later. Although the first train has been undergoing tests on the Maresme line since the beginning of last year, the agreed delivery times have been exceeded, and the Generalitat officials do not expect the first convoys to enter service until the end of the year at best.
