New images of the Louvre robbery: the moment the thieves drop Eugenia's crown

A French public television research program revealed new footage this Thursday of the high-profile Louvre museum robbery, which occurred on October 19, 2025, showing four guards powerless against the actions of the two assailants and how one of them drops Eugenia’s crown.

The footage, which belongs to the Louvre’s video surveillance system and was broadcast by Complément d’enquête (Investigation Supplement), shows, in the foreground, four gallery guards in the Apollo Gallery.

One of them immediately calls the Louvre security control post, while another hesitates before stepping back, unsure if the thieves are armed. Their boss orders them not to intervene, as gallery guards are supposed to evacuate the public and not put themselves in danger.

The program, in fact, includes testimonies denouncing the incomplete training provided to the agents.

Regarding the assailants, the footage, taken from a different angle than previously known, shows a man wearing a yellow vest entering through the Apollo Gallery window, followed by another dressed in black.

The first rushes to a display case that, apparently, had been located beforehand and attacks it with a grinder.

Next, the two criminals are seen leaving with the loot in their backpacks and dropping Eugenia’s crown on the ground. The piece was found shortly after the incident near the gallery and was restored.

Of the loot taken from the museum, the Louvre estimates it at 88 million euros, corresponding to the value of the eight French crown jewels, which have not been found despite the arrest of several suspects.

This Louvre robbery highlighted the security deficiencies of the world’s most visited museum.

A report from the Court of Auditors, published in 2025, considered that the Louvre neglected the museum’s security, while another parliamentary report estimated that only “30 seconds” were missing for the police to have been able to arrest the thieves.
