The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, warned this Thursday that the Consell will not negotiate with the teaching unions if the indefinite strike announced by the teachers affects the development of the university entrance exams. “If they blackmail with that, there will be no negotiation on the part of the Generalitat,” he stated during the control session held at Les Corts Valencianes.

The head of the Consell was responding to a question posed by the socialist spokesperson, José Muñoz, who accused the regional government of “imposing minimum services that make the strike impossible” and of “criminalizing the teachers” by claiming that “they only want to raise their salaries.”
During his intervention, Pérez Llorca defended the position of the Valencian Government and assured that the current Consell is indeed willing to dialogue with the union representatives. “We are willing to sit down to talk and seek agreements,” he pointed out, in contrast — he said — to the management carried out by the previous Botànic government over the last eight years.
However, the president made it clear that this willingness to dialogue has “one condition.” According to him, the Generalitat respects the teachers’ right to strike, but also the students’ right to be evaluated normally after years of academic effort. “Respect for the figure of the teachers, but also respect for the students and the parents,” he stated.
In this regard, he insisted that students must be able to “have the grades they deserve and opt for university access” without being harmed by the labor conflict. “The right to strike is compatible with the students’ right to be objectively evaluated,” he emphasized.

Pérez Llorca considered it “very dangerous” to use university entrance exams as a pressure element
Pérez Llorca considered it “very dangerous” to use university entrance exams as a pressure element in the negotiation and reiterated that the Consell will not tolerate that situation. “What I will not tolerate is using children as blackmail,” he concluded.
Furthermore, the president reproached the teaching unions for not leading similar mobilizations in previous stages. “Here is the record: on five occasions they were told no. Why didn’t the unions protest and remain silent then, and why are they going to do it now?” he asked during the parliamentary debate.
The indefinite strike called in the educational field thus keeps the confrontation between the Generalitat and the union representatives open at a key moment of the academic year, marked by the proximity of the university entrance exams.
