The Mossos d’Esquadra are finalizing a detailed report on the 48-hour lightning trip to Quito (Ecuador) during which Jonathan Andic claims he lost the phone he was carrying in Montserrat the day his father died. In his judicial statement, the son of Isak Andic, investigated for the alleged homicide of the latter, stated that his phone was stolen during a brief outing in the Ecuadorian capital. He said he traveled for a business matter, about which he has not yet provided concrete details.

In July, the magistrate of Martorell Raquel Nieto adopted a prior request from prosecutor Teresa Yoldi, who requested a detailed tracking of everything the suspect did during that work trip. This includes tracking his bank accounts, calls, and any detail derived from that stay, according to what El País reported this Thursday and sources familiar with the investigation confirmed to La Vanguardia.
Jonathan Andic did not report the disappearance of the phone in Quito
The work trip to Quito is another element that both the investigators and the prosecutor and judge have highlighted in the list of suspicions against the son of the founder of Mango, who died in Montserrat on December 14, 2024, while on a route with his son. Firstly, because he gave almost no explanations to anyone about that trip, which took place four months after his father’s death. In fact, investigators learned that Jonathan Andic had traveled to Ecuador when they examined emails exchanged with one of Mango’s executive secretaries and discovered that the suspect requested a new iPhone upon his return to Spain.
Jonathan Andic admitted that he did not report the disappearance of the phone, which, according to the defense, was stolen during a walk in a square in the capital.
The investigation unit of the Mossos in Martorell, leading the case, already carried out procedures at the time with the different telephone companies operating in the Ecuadorian capital. Police, prosecutor, and judge suspected that the suspect’s trip to Ecuador was not only for work and that he took advantage of his stay in a foreign country to make the phone that was in Montserrat on the day of the investigated events disappear. An assumption that the defense has always denied. This was done by lawyer Cristóbal Martell in his appeal to the Barcelona Court against his client’s prison order, and by the director of the detective agency, Método 3, who provided documentation showing that the iPhone in question traveled to Ecuador and was used in the first hours of the stay.

The Health app on the suspect’s iPhone, key
The police have already confirmed, as the defense maintained, that this phone did travel to Ecuador, but another unresolved mystery that the judge already noted in her prison order remains: the Health app did not activate from the day before the trip and only reconnected when he turned on the new iPhone 16 that was already prepared for him at Mango’s headquarters. Why? There is no answer yet, but this app has helped investigators reconstruct, for example, the steps both father and son took on the day the deceased businessman died, and adjust the timing of the fall. Investigators were able to verify that this app had never stopped working on previous trips abroad.
In his appeal to the Barcelona Court, still pending resolution, defense lawyer Martell rejected the judge’s argument, which described the circumstances in which Jonathan Andic lost his phone as “strange.” “It is enough to consult open sources on statistics of thefts and robberies in public spaces” in Quito, the lawyer stated in his document.
In addition to this report on Jonathan Andic’s activity in Ecuador, the Mossos have worked on reconstructing the route in Montserrat taken by the Andic family therapist, María Julia Lüderwaldt, and Johana, the English teacher who occasionally collaborated in his practice. Both walked on December 1, just 14 days before Isak Andic’s death, and only seven days before the English teacher showed that same Camí de les Feixades to Jonathan Andic.
