The events date back to the early hours of Tuesday, September 1, when the Mossos d’Esquadra received a report of an assault in Manresa. Several patrols went to the scene where they found a man seriously injured. The officers began resuscitation maneuvers, which were later continued by two units of the Medical Emergency System (SEM). Despite the efforts of the emergency services, the man ultimately died.

Hours before dying, the victim had been with his twin sons at the correfoc that marked the end of a major local festival. After the show ended and after Carles’ ex-wife picked up their children, the man intervened in a fight between two groups of teenagers.

The party continued and, around five in the morning, Carles and his friends again encountered one of the two groups between whom he had mediated hours earlier. The victim’s companions stated that one of the detainees, 15 years old, threw a cone at them. From that moment a brawl started during which they identified another minor, 16 years old, as the author of the only stab wound, directly to the heart, that ended Carles’ life.

The teenagers, a group of four, fled. The victim’s friends alerted 112 and requested the presence of the police and an ambulance.

With the witnesses’ indications, the Manresa police had no doubt about who they were or where they could find them. Both had returned to the occupied ground floor where they lived, sleeping on mattresses, a group of teenagers, minors and usual protagonists of incidents and thefts.

The Mossos then arrested two minors and the juvenile judge on duty in Barcelona ordered the detention in a closed regime of the two teenagers, aged 15 and 16. With the double arrest this Tuesday, there are now four minors imprisoned for this crime.

The DIC maintains an open investigation to clarify the causes of the events.
