OKM, SME of the Year 2026 of Girona

The company OKM Química Ortopédica, S.L., an industrial company specialized in designing and producing products and materials for orthopedics, has received the 2026 Girona SME of the Year Award, an accolade granted annually by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Banco Santander, in collaboration with La Vanguardia.

This company has a strong international vocation, as more than 80% of its turnover is generated in over 50 countries and, during the last fiscal year, it has consolidated its economic growth and increased its workforce by 13%. In addition, they have reconciliation measures, specialized training, and more than half of the team is female.

The jury was composed of Juan Miguel Cuéllar, Deputy Director of Competitiveness of the Spanish Chamber; Teresa Garcia Cuacos, Director of the Catalonia Business Zone; Maria Teresa Villar Roda, General Treasurer of the Girona Provincial Council, and Alejandro Teodoro Cabrera, from La Vanguardia.

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Award, the Special Mention “Business Legacy” was given to Farinera Coromina

As a celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Award, the Special Mention “Business Legacy” was given to Farinera Coromina. This prestigious company is recognized for its business trajectory and undeniable contribution to the economic and social development of Girona. Since 1897, they have been producing natural flours for artisan professionals in the sector to promote healthy, sustainable, and local products.

In addition, four runner-up prizes were awarded in the categories of Internationalization, Innovation and Digitalization, Training and Employment, and Sustainable SME. The Internationalization runner-up prize was awarded to SIGMADAF, dedicated to the design and manufacture of systems for the treatment of industrial wastewater. This SME allocates 85% of its turnover to exports, so they work with a large number of clients from different continents and types of industries.

OKM will compete for the 2026 National SME of the Year Award, which will be chosen among the winners from each province

The Innovation and Digitalization runner-up prize was awarded to Happy Innova, S.L. It is a startup that promotes non-invasive medical diagnostic methods, such as blood extraction in children, elderly people, and other patients. The Training and Employment runner-up prize went to OSG Serveis Grup, specialized in the management of maintenance and installation of electricity and gas, with a significant contribution to the creation of quality employment in the province, with more than half being female talent.

And finally, the Sustainable SME runner-up prize in Girona goes to Palets J Matorell, dedicated to sawing and treating wood and manufacturing pallets. Their most recent innovation is the incorporation of pallets with approved agglomerated blocks made of recycled wood, which make up 25% of the total pallet and are 100% recyclable.

OKM will compete for the 2026 National SME of the Year Award, which will be chosen among the winners from each province. The name will be announced in the early months of 2027, at a grand event to be held in Madrid.
