The death toll from the devastating floods in Nepal has risen to 1,344 and the number of missing stands at 4,886 as search and rescue operations continue in the affected areas, according to the latest report from authorities published this Saturday.

The recent report from the Nepal Police raised the death toll, while the number of people unaccounted for slightly decreased to 4,886.
Two Spaniards missing
Among the missing are at least 606 foreign nationals, including two Spaniards, according to official sources confirmed to EFE.
The operations, which keep nearly 8,000 agents deployed, have so far helped 8,962 people. The efforts continue with the hope of finding more survivors in the ground zero area, after the rescue this Friday of two workers who spent ten days trapped in a tunnel of the Trishuli 3A hydroelectric plant.

Thousands of unidentified bodies
One of the rescued, Kabir Maharjan, is in critical condition and receiving intensive care in a military hospital in Kathmandu for severe hypothermia and extreme exhaustion in the limbs. The other worker, Sanjay Sah, remains stable and recounted that during his confinement, he was able to shout and communicate with several people nearby.
Identifying the deceased remains one of the biggest logistical challenges for the Himalayan country. Authorities detailed that, of the 1,344 bodies recovered, including 85 minors, 1,270 remain unidentified. In response to this crisis, forensic experts continue collecting DNA samples, now accumulating 2,272 genetic profiles of the deceased and their relatives.
Meanwhile, in Tibet (China), a region also hit by the floods on August 26, Chinese authorities report in their latest update 31 deaths and 531 people still missing.
