A suction entrapment could be behind the accidental death of a couple found in a jacuzzi in a residential area of Cullera. The Civil Guard continues to investigate, awaiting the results of the autopsies, the death of a 48-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman, whose lifeless bodies were found on Tuesday afternoon by their two minor children. He was a New Zealand national, although the family lived in Ireland, where his wife was originally from.
The lifeless bodies of the couple were found by their 14 and 15-year-old children in the jacuzzi of a four-story chalet in a luxury residential area of this coastal town, and although there were no signs of violence, the Judicial Police of Homicides of the Civil Guard opened an investigation because there was “some indication that something strange might have happened.”
According to the newspaper Levante-EMV, the victims could have died from a suction entrapment, a phenomenon that occurs when the force of a water pump in a pool or jacuzzi violently holds a person against the drain or the drainage grille.

The Valencian newspaper explains that this is the main hypothesis the agents of the Almussafes Judicial Police Team are working on after the information obtained from the on-site inspection carried out by the Criminalistics laboratory of the Valencia Command and the analysis of the bodies carried out both in the chalet occupied by the family. This cause, the same source relates, would explain that the bodies showed marks left by the suction systems of the bathtub, mainly the man. The hypothesis the investigators consider is that he got trapped and his wife tried to save him.
