The United States is going to withdraw 5,000 soldiers from Germany, the Pentagon announced on Friday, in what appears to be a retaliation by the United States against its close NATO ally, amid growing differences between President Donald Trump and Europe over the war in Iran.

Trump had threatened a reduction of forces earlier this week following a confrontation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who said on Monday that the Iranians were humiliating the United States in negotiations to end the war, which has already lasted two months.
