The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has requested the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to decree the confinement in Ceuta due to “health risk” in the face of infectious diseases such as scabies or tuberculosis that have been detected after the massive entry of “more than 70,000 illegal migrants” at the end of July.

In an interview granted to Europa Press, Feijóo recounted his meeting with the president of the College of Physicians and the president of the College of Nursing of the autonomous city about the situation of the hospitals and the emergency service, who informed him of diseases such as “tuberculosis, scabies and more than 450 cases of gastroenteritis,” as well as “some cases of chickenpox.”
“We are talking about infectious diseases. I believe the conditions for confinement due to health risk are met. I do not have all the data because obviously we do not have them from the opposition, but I propose that the Government carefully study the possibility of decreeing confinement for public health reasons,” he demanded, warning that these are cases that can produce “a huge impact on the population.”
Feijóo highlighted that scabies has affected military personnel. “If we have 10,000 people wandering the streets, between the beaches, hills, and ravines of Ceuta, without shelter, without care, and in unsanitary conditions, it is evident that the risk of infectious diseases is there and that in these cases we must act according to public health parameters,” he added.
In this situation, he criticized that the Minister of Health, Mónica García, “took 17 days to go to Ceuta” when “she knows from her epidemiological records the risk of infectious diseases.” “I would be incapable of being on vacation when part of your country is in this situation,” he emphasized.
Rejection of the reception of minors before the Childhood Conference
On the other hand, the leader of the opposition expressed his rejection of the reception of illegal migrant minors before the Sectoral Conference on Childhood and Adolescence next Thursday to address the aid of 25 million euros to Ceuta.
Feijóo stated that the PP’s position “coincides” with that of the EU because Spain and Morocco “must agree on the return and repatriation of all minors who have entered through this invasion procedure” in the country.
At this point, he defended “accelerating the repatriation of all minors to Morocco” so they can return to their families. And if their families are unknown, he continued, “they should be placed at the disposal of the Moroccan child protection authorities.”
Feijóo highlighted that the Ministers of Interior, Foreign Affairs, and Defense promised to return “all” migrants who have arrived in Spain illegally. “What has changed in the last week? That Sumar does not agree with what the PSOE says? That was what we were missing: Indifference and incapacity to manage the crisis and now also the conflict among them,” he exclaimed.
Regarding the Ministry of Youth and Childhood’s intention to add to Thursday’s meeting a point on issues related to childhood, including the proposal to transfer 500 girls from Ceuta to the Peninsula — a point that should be voted on — Feijóo warned that the PP “will not fall into the temptation to facilitate the Government in diverting this sovereignty crisis into a war against the autonomous communities” over “the issue of minors.”
Accelerate repatriation with more shifts
After stating that the Executive is “specialized in finding culprits to cover up its incompetence,” he insisted that “everyone must return” and “return to their country through the legal procedures of expulsion and repatriation.” “If Morocco has also said it is willing to take the minors when the Spanish authorities put them at their disposal, what is the problem?”.

Given this, he again requested that all necessary foreign affairs units be transferred to Ceuta so that “in three shifts, morning, afternoon, and night, repatriation files are processed.” In his view, it cannot be that “with 10,000 people on the street” and with “a problem” of public order and health, “returns are being processed as if they were an ordinary situation.”
“The urgency of the return and repatriation of Moroccan adults and minors who have entered Spain is a case of urgency and emergency,” the leader of the ‘populares’ declared to Europa Press.
Regarding the Government’s claim that it is “illegal” to return boys and girls and accusing the PP of proposing deportation, Feijóo reiterated that the PP’s proposal is “in accordance with European and Spanish legislation” because “there is a procedure to expel a minor.” “The procedure should be carried out urgently with all the personnel I just mentioned,” he added.
Furthermore, he described it as “surprising” that the Executive “gives lessons on legality” and is not “in a position to protect the girls and boys of Ceuta,” who will soon have to start the school year, nor the “thousands of women” in the autonomous city who “do not go out after 8:00 p.m. because they are afraid of what is happening on the streets of their city.”
Regarding the Government’s warning to the Autonomous Communities that if they refuse to receive minors from Ceuta, the Public Prosecutor’s Office will have to act ex officio, Feijóo reiterated that the PP will not “fall into the trap of focusing a matter of territorial integrity and national sovereignty on the war the Government wants to start with the communities using minors.”
In his view, Morocco has “expressed its willingness to receive national minors.” “Therefore, let’s do it,” he added, criticizing the Executive’s “frivolity” because this is not a case like “the boat” from Cartagena or Lanzarote but an “invasion” of more than 70,000 people. “Please, let’s not distort the problem. We will not play the Government’s game,” he concluded.
Vox proposal to accuse Sánchez of treason
When asked if the PP is willing to promote that Congress accuses Sánchez of treason before the Supreme Court as Vox demands, Feijóo indicated that at this moment there is “an investigation, preliminary proceedings in a court of the National Court that is studying what happened” and recalled that they are awaiting the Government’s explanations in Parliament.
“It is the first time that the President of the Government, facing the greatest crisis of territorial integrity of our country that we know, is in flip-flops and proposing summer songs,” he denounced, criticizing that the ministers have not appeared earlier in the Senate as the PP requested when there are “unanswered questions.”
Asked if he is concerned that the Ceuta crisis gives wings to Vox, Feijóo responded: “I am concerned that what happened in Ceuta humiliates our country. I am concerned that Spanish foreign policy, domestic policy, defense policy, and the President of the Government have been humiliated by another country. And I am deeply concerned about the low reputation that the Government of Spain has with our allies.”
