A flat of her partner, a penthouse rented to his tax advisor, another property he tried to buy with the help of a Presidency official, a Community chalet used for private purposes, and finally, a luxury penthouse worth 6.3 million that was justified as an office, later considered as a possible official residence —although it lacks a license for both uses— and is now for sale.

Isabel Díaz Ayuso has been chaining homes in recent years without managing to leave controversy behind. Her latest move was to leave the Chamberí penthouse she shared with Alberto González Amador to rent in Puerta de Hierro, just as the purchase of the second penthouse reached the courts.
The succession of operations affects the structure of the regional government and the use of public resources
The story began with a single flat. In July 2022, after admitting tax fraud in his 2020 and 2021 declarations, Alberto González Amador bought a 183-square-meter flat in Chamberí for 850,000 euros. Ayuso moved in there in autumn 2023. But the building already hid another property. The upper penthouse, bought by Babia Capital, a company managed by his tax advisor.
The existence of that second home became known in March 2024, along with the investigation for tax fraud. More than a year later, González Amador explained before the judge that he paid 5,000 euros a month for the penthouse, which he eventually ended up buying.
That property also accumulated an urban planning controversy. The partner of the Madrid president carried out significant works without municipal permission, and the City Council opened a file.
At the end of 2025, the controversy took another leap when Ayuso visited another flat in Chamberí for a private matter, but with the help of Álvaro Sanz, head of the Presidency Secretariat’s office, who arranged the visits. The purchase, however, was not closed.

But there was already a precedent regarding the private use of regional assets. In July 2025, Ayuso and part of her family spent a weekend in a Community chalet in Rascafría, acquired with public money for 4.3 million euros to expand the Guadarrama National Park. The stay had not been communicated and gained special resonance because the president had previously criticized Pedro Sánchez for the use of public residences.
The next property was directly public. In April 2026, a regional company bought a 485-square-meter penthouse also in Chamberí for 6.3 million. The Community justified the acquisition as a temporary office for Ayuso during the works on the Presidency headquarters. But neither did the property have a license for that nor was the processing of those works signed before that date. The hypothesis of an official residence that her circle suggested as justification quickly faded.
The controversy forced the Madrid Government to put the penthouse up for sale for 6.69 million to allocate resources to the damages caused by the fires. But that operation, which the law makes impossible since the amount from a disposal cannot be directly assigned to a specific operating expense, has ended up in the courts after half a dozen complaints for possible crimes of prevarication, embezzlement, and documentary falsification.
Meanwhile, González Amador has put the two Chamberí homes up for sale and Ayuso has finally left the building to rent in Puerta de Hierro. A move that has fueled rumors about a separation, and comes about ten months before the regional elections. Just as Amador will begin his own judicial process with a possible conviction.
The succession of homes can no longer be explained solely as a private matter. Ayuso and her circle have for years turned their rivals’ houses into political ammunition and now claim that the president’s home belongs to her personal sphere. But the boundary has become difficult to draw since what started with a private flat has ended up involving Presidency officials, regional assets, and a judicialized public purchase. Ayuso has changed houses but controversy follows her wherever she goes.
