The United States processed the refund of 121.75 billion dollars, up to July 10, to the companies affected by the tariffs imposed by the Donald Trump administration and which were annulled in February by the Supreme Court, government sources confirmed on Wednesday.

According to the spokesperson for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the agency has received 24.4 million import declarations, of which approximately 16.76 million were processed for potential reimbursement or certified refund. The amount processed represents more than 70% of the total to be refunded, estimated at about 166 billion dollars.

“The CBP has fully complied with all decisions of the International Trade Court and other courts regarding refunds under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA),” the office spokesperson stated.
Refund requests can be submitted by importers or customs agents through an online mechanism called CAPE, enabled last April, and are then reviewed individually. One day after the launch of CAPE, Trump suggested to companies that it would be a good decision not to seek to recover the money paid for the annulled tariffs.

The U.S. Supreme Court declared illegal in February the tariff system that the Republican president imposed in April 2025 under the 1977 IEEPA, establishing different levies on countries, considered reciprocal by the president.
Trump widely criticized the High Court ruling and announced a temporary global tariff of 10% under a new legal framework, which expired at the end of July. To maintain his tariff policy, the Republican administration announced new tariffs ranging from 10% to 12.5% on imports from 60 economies that, according to its investigations, make “insufficient efforts to combat forced labor.”
