Judge Juan Carlos Peinado, the instructor of the case of Begoña Gómez, wife of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, is accumulating complaints. The pseudo-union Manos Limpias is the latest in a long list to denounce the magistrate’s actions.

Manos Limpias, one of the popular accusations against Gómez, has filed a complaint with the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) against Peinado alleging that the magistrate had “a manifestly inconsiderate treatment” against one of its lawyers during the instruction of the Gómez case by not allowing her to enter a prior hearing, which it considers “a radically arbitrary action.”
For this reason, the pseudo-union has reported Peinado to the governing body of judges arguing that, after a recess of that hearing, the organization’s lawyer requested to be absent and to be replaced by a colleague, something the magistrate did not allow, who only allowed one lawyer per party to enter.
According to Manos Limpias, Peinado used an “improper tone for the high function he performs,” urging the lawyer to “leave the room in a discourteous manner and ignoring any explanation that the justice administration lawyer himself wanted to express, even raising his voice,” reports EFE.

The CGPJ could now study whether the complaint from Manos Limpias against Peinado is founded and if his actions deserve to be sanctioned. This protest adds to others made by the Minister of Justice, Félix Bolaños; Gómez’s advisor, Cristina Álvarez; the Mas Madrid party, a police union, and two individuals.
The permanent commission of the CGPJ, the main governing body of judges, archived most of these complaints on July 28, but left two of them alive formulated for “disregard and delay.” These protests have been elevated to the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM), which will have to decide whether to fine Peinado or not. However, it is unlikely that the judge will be sanctioned, because he retires on September 27 and any file opened against him will lapse on that date.
