The alleged “plumbing” scheme would have started with a clear directive and an “ultimate goal”: “to protect the interests at stake” of the socialist party and, directly or indirectly, of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez. The mastermind would be Santos Cerdán, then the strongman of the president, and it all began when his wife, Begoña Gómez, was charged. What can be inferred from the reports of the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard included in the case file, which La Vanguardia has accessed, is that Cerdán already had other dangerous connections prior to that April 2024 with Leire Díez and the former president of SEPI Vicente Fernández. In fact, they are being investigated by the National Court for rigging public contracts.

Eight years ago, the deliberation and vote on the motion of no confidence against President Mariano Rajoy took place in the Congress of Deputies. The first and so far the only motion of no confidence that has succeeded in democratic Spain.

As announced a few weeks ago, Junts per Catalunya has once again submitted this Wednesday in Congress the bill to delegate immigration-related powers to the Generalitat that it agreed with the PSOE last year and that was rejected in September 2025 by the votes of the PP, Vox, Podemos, and two deputies from Sumar. The post-convergence party thus recovers an initiative they consider a current commitment with the socialists, doing so amid the migration crisis in Ceuta, while maintaining their rejection that Catalonia should have to host minors who have recently arrived in the autonomous city.
