A passenger on the Mv Hondius, the cruise ship where three people have died from a possible hantavirus outbreak and which will remain in quarantine for two weeks, has explained how the situation is being experienced on board. Jack Rosmarin, a travel influencer with more than 30,000 followers on TikTok, tearfully explained how the approximately 150 souls traveling on the ship feel. “We are not stories, we are not headlines,” is his headline.

“All we want right now is to feel safe, have clarity, and return home,” he added from the cruise that departed from Argentina and is headed to the Canary Islands after stopping in Cape Verde.
The World Health Organization (WHO) activated alerts this Sunday after confirming the death of three passengers on board the luxury cruise due to hantavirus, a serious respiratory infection.

The cruise, which carries 150 passengers, including 14 Spaniards, five of whom are residents of Catalonia. Since the ship’s final destination is the Canary Islands, the Government Delegation in the archipelago is in contact with the Ministry of Health and the Coordination Center for Health Alerts and Emergencies (CCAES), led by Fernando Simón, to decide what to do and how to act in case docking is finally authorized at a Canary port.
Of the six people who have fallen ill on board, only one hantavirus variant has been identified in one of them, the passenger who became ill and was hospitalized in South Africa, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
