After the results of the penultimate matchday, five teams will fight next Saturday to avoid the last two relegation spots. The teams that will fight for survival are Levante, Osasuna, and Elche (42 points), Girona (40), and Mallorca (39). On the other hand, Alavés and Sevilla, along with Espanyol, have secured their safety.
Going case by case, the calculations are as follows. Levante is in a virtually safe position. Their relegation would only occur through a very complicated combination: they would need to lose their match at Betis, Elche would also have to lose at Girona, Osasuna would have to get points at Getafe, and Mallorca would have to fail to win. Meanwhile, Osasuna, if they at least draw against a Getafe fighting for Europe, will also remain in the First Division. A defeat would condemn them if Girona beats Elche and Mallorca surpasses Oviedo.
Levante, Elche, and Osasuna are safe with a point, Girona needs to win, and Mallorca hopes for a miracle
Elche, for its part, visits Montilivi. Not losing also guarantees survival for Eder Sarabia’s team. In case of defeat, their chances become complicated, but they could still be saved if Levante loses, Osasuna gets points, and Mallorca does not win. For Girona, the calculations are much clearer. Either they win against Elche at home or they drop to the Second Division. There is no other way for Míchel’s team.

Of course, Mallorca is in a much worse position, needing a miracle to avoid the Second Division. The Balearic team is obliged to beat Oviedo and also hope that Osasuna loses at Getafe, Elche falls at Girona, and Levante gets points at La Cartuja stadium against Betis.
