Two Local Police officers from El Prat save the life of a baby who was choking

An intervention that both the police officers and the family will remember for a lifetime. Two officers on regular duty from the Local Police of El Prat de Llobregat saved the life of a one-year-old baby who was choking on a piece of bread, according to the Town Hall of the locality in a statement.

It was last Saturday around 3:30 a.m. when the child’s father alerted the police officers of the situation. He went out to the street and found them on Cerdanya street. He alerted that at his home his little son had choked while eating a breadstick. They went to the building and there they found the child lying on the ground, inert, face up and unable to breathe.

The baby was transferred by SEM to the ICU of Sant Joan de Déu

The officer and the corporal decided to perform the Heimlich maneuver, a first aid technique, managing to get the baby to breathe again. Shortly after, the Medical Emergency System (SEM) arrived, which continued with the resuscitation efforts.

SEM confirmed that the quick intervention of the police officers was key to preventing the baby’s death, who needed to be transferred to the ICU of the Sant Joan de Déu hospital. It was there where they extracted the piece of bread. Afterwards, he remained under observation for a few days until receiving the final discharge.

According to the Town Hall, after overcoming the scare, the family wanted to publicly thank the intervention of the two Local Police officers of El Prat.
