A 67-year-old swimmer died this Wednesday on the Grava beach in Xàbia (Alicante) after being pulled from the water feeling unwell and later going into cardiopulmonary arrest, according to municipal sources reported to EFE.

Other sources close to the case told EFE that the man had collapsed upon exiting the water. The alert about this incident was received at 15:10 hours and it was the beach lifeguards who rescued the swimmer from the water.

Upon noticing he was in a state of great weakness, they requested an ambulance and shortly after the man went into cardiopulmonary arrest, according to municipal sources.

The basic life support protocol with a defibrillator was immediately initiated. Local Police, Civil Guard, and an ambulance arrived at the scene and assisted in the resuscitation efforts.
Upon the arrival of the Samu medical team, advanced resuscitation maneuvers continued, but despite numerous attempts to restore his vital signs, “it was not possible to save his life,” the same sources stated.
