The ties between Argentina and Spain are very strong: a common language, the shared dynasty of the Simeones, and the grievance that if the Malvinas are Argentine, Gibraltar is Spanish. Will we experience a Hispanic Day celebration tomorrow or will we make a scene on a day when the world is watching us?
Let’s not heat up the final. Let’s celebrate what unites us (empanadas, for example). It’s not a life-or-death match and what better than to smile at each other if we meet at a traffic light with a group of Argentines who shout beyond their means and municipal regulations, kiss the badge on the jersey they’ve been wearing all week, and point out the little stars, which is always more polite than grabbing their crotch.

Both fanbases can be very annoying if they decide to celebrate the title in the streets or scream when someone puts a microphone in front of them. Argentina’s enthusiasm is unbeatable and their passion, unbelievable. Lionel Scaloni already says it: Argentines are like this and not like that. Some compatriots are starting to get tired of this street-level Argentineness for being silly, cool, or rogue. And wait…
Everything is forgiven to Argentina because they have brought excitement to a modest World Cup in football. May the best win, that is Spain because we are the best – Rajoy and CIS polls say so – we play as a team and if they have Messi switched on, Spain has pitchers that lead to De la Fuente.
