Families ask the Government to promote an agreement on education outside the union table

The federation of family associations of Catalonia (aFFaC) asks the Department of Education to promote a major agreement on public education outside the union negotiation table, an agreement in which families participate. They interpret the rejection of the pre-agreement in Thursday’s consultation by teachers as a lack of vision from the Government and unions to understand the teachers’ demands.

In statements to Matí on TV3, Lidón Gasull, director of aFFaC, explained that “the protest is not about salary conditions, and that is what the unions negotiate,” it is about other challenges such as addressing complexity, which includes inclusive schooling or poverty. To do this, it is necessary to address the reorganization of resources or identify the necessary profiles. “Structural challenges,” she insisted, “are not solved with meetings between the minister and the unions.”

Gasull indicated that the educational conflict will only be resolved with a major agreement that identifies criteria, timeline, and resources regarding the needs of the sector. If this agreement is not reached, she warns, the main ones affected will be the students.

The director of the federation proposes a third way: “a major agreement for public education.”

Minister Esther Niubó had remarked shortly before that “the time for negotiation is over” and defended the pre-agreement signed last week with four of the five unions on the sectoral table authorized to participate due to their electoral representativeness. These are CC.OO., UGT, Professors de Secundària, and Ustec, a union that put the pre-agreement to a vote and has since disassociated itself after the rejection.

Niubó stated that the pact offers “a sufficient and realistic framework” to “strengthen” the educational system in Catalonia.
