Anthropic files for IPO with a huge public offering

One of the fashion companies, Anthropic, reported this Monday that it confidentially filed its initial public offering (IPO) prospectus with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), laying the groundwork for a possible historic stock sale aimed at investors willing to bet on artificial intelligence (AI). This could happen this coming fall.

There is excitement among investors. Three companies may soon debut on the U.S. stock markets with valuations of at least one trillion dollars, something that has never happened even once before. SpaceX, Elon Musk’s space and AI company, is expected to be the first, with its IPO scheduled for mid-month. Both Anthropic and OpenAI are competing to become the second.

Anthropic has experienced explosive growth this year. In May, it announced that its annualized revenue rate had soared to 47 billion dollars, compared to the 10 billion dollars in annual revenue recorded in 2025. Last week it closed a funding round with a valuation of 965 billion dollars, surpassing OpenAI, which was valued at 852 billion dollars at the end of March. It was the largest venture capital funding round of all time. OpenAI popularized AI with the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022.

“This gives us the option to go public once the SEC completes its review,” Anthropic said in a statement. “The proposed initial public offering will depend on market conditions and other factors,” it insisted in this text.

This announcement allows Anthropic to position itself ahead of its rival OpenAI, which is also preparing a confidential filing. SpaceX has already filed its paperwork and is finalizing the requirements to conduct an investor roadshow this week, with plans to debut on the stock market as early as next week.

Filing a confidential prospectus does not obligate Anthropic to follow a set schedule for going public. Its official information only needs to be made available to investors at least fifteen days before the company begins its roadshow. SpaceX filed its confidential documentation on April 1 and published its official prospectus on May 20.

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by a group of executives and researchers who left OpenAI due to concerns about the direction the company was taking. Anthropic is mainly known for its family of artificial intelligence models called Claude, which powers products like its popular programming assistant, Claude Code.

And it is recognized because its CEO, Dario Amodei, one of the voices that has most warned about the potential dangers of AI to humanity, confronted the Pentagon by opposing the use of its tool for war attacks or mass surveillance of citizens.

The government tried to sanction this company by withdrawing defense contracts. Despite this setback, which Sam Altman’s OpenAI immediately sought to take advantage of, Anthropic has recently established itself as one of the main leaders in the AI race after experiencing an extraordinary growth period.
