Vox demands the PP implement 'national priority' in Valencia for access to aid and services

The Vox parliamentary group in the Valencian Parliament has registered a Non-Legislative Proposal (PNL) with the aim of establishing the principle of “national priority” in the management of public services. The initiative proposes that Spanish citizens have preference in access to social aid, housing, and public benefits, in what the party defines as a reorientation of the current welfare model. The initiative by the far-right party now forces the PP, and its leader Juanfran Pérez Llorca, to take a stand on this initiative in the Valencian chamber.

The parliamentary group’s spokesperson, José María Llanos, has defended the proposal, stating that it responds to a “clear political diagnosis” of the system’s current situation. According to Llanos, the deterioration of the welfare state, the overload of public services, and the loss of social cohesion would be a consequence of policies applied for years by different governments.

The PNL proposes a change of approach in the management of public resources, based on the idea that the State should prioritize those who contribute to the system. In this sense, Vox argues that the preference of nationals in accessing aid does not respond to arbitrary criteria, but to a principle of “political responsibility and social justice.” Llanos has emphasized that “the State and institutions exist to safeguard the security, justice, and well-being of the national community,” defending that all public policy should be oriented towards that objective.

Among the measures included in the initiative is the establishment of preference for Spaniards in access to social benefits and housing, as well as guaranteeing the sustainability of the healthcare system. In this latter area, the proposal contemplates limiting access for irregular immigrants to cases of vital urgency. Furthermore, it proposes ending mass regularization processes and strengthening control over illegal immigration.

The document also proposes regulatory reforms to ensure that non-contributory benefits are reserved for national citizens. According to Vox, these measures seek to protect the welfare state and guarantee its long-term viability in a context they describe as “critical.”

The party links the pressure on public services, difficulties in accessing housing, and the increase in demand for assistance with the growth of the foreign population in recent years. It also questions recent decisions by the central government, such as expanding access to public services for irregular immigrants or regularization processes, considering that they exacerbate the system’s structural problems.

Llanos has positioned “national priority” as a central axis of the current political debate, highlighting that this approach has already been incorporated into government agreements in other autonomous communities, such as Extremadura and Aragon. In these territories, Vox claims to have promoted social policies based on this principle.

With this initiative, the party seeks to extend this model to the whole of Spain, reinforcing its position as a force that advocates for a reorientation of public policies towards the protection of the national community and the sustainability of the welfare system.
