The Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard has appeared at the headquarters of the General Directorate of the same armed institute to collect documentation about a reserved information – as internal investigations in the force are known – that was opened against police commanders investigating the PSOE on suspicion that they may have leaked information.
The delegation was led by Lieutenant Colonel of the UCO’s Economic Crimes Department, Antonio Balas, following orders from the National Court judge Santiago Pedraz, who is investigating payments from the PSOE to a scheme to stop cases against the socialist party and Pedro Sánchez’s government. The well-known socialist plumber, Leire Díez, who was precisely recorded attacking the lieutenant colonel, would be involved in that scheme: “If Balas is dead, better. (…) I have no desire for Mr. Antonio Balas to become the executioner of everyone.”
According to sources close to the investigation, it is not a raid, but a request for information. Months ago, the reserved information was opened against an agent following news published in the media related to investigations within the PSOE’s orbit. The same sources assure that this reserved information did not end in a disciplinary file because it could not be proven that the leak came from that uniformed officer.
