The truce between Russia and Ukraine for the days May 8, 9, and 10 is now a reality. This has been confirmed by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, in a statement on Truth Social, in which he thanks both presidents for reaching an agreement.

“I am pleased to announce a three-day ceasefire (May 9, 10, and 11) in the war between Russia and Ukraine (…) This request was made directly by me, and I greatly appreciate its acceptance by President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky,” Trump stated, despite the truce that Russia unilaterally maintains within the framework of Victory Day.

Meanwhile, the U.S. president has confirmed that both countries will carry out an exchange of 1,000 prisoners as part of the truce. The Ukrainian leader has expressed his satisfaction with the agreement and highlighted his willingness to resolve “key humanitarian issues” in the conflict. “Red Square is less important to us than the lives of Ukrainian prisoners who can return home,” Zelensky assured.

Trump concluded the statement by affirming that peace talks between both countries continue and that “every day we are closer to achieving it,” referring to the end of the conflict. “I hope this is the beginning of the end of a very long, bloody, and hard-fought war,” the president concluded. For its part, the Kremlin has also accepted the initiative, according to statements by Yuri Ushakov, Kremlin advisor.
