The 74-year-old artist is in an induced coma in the Intensive Care Unit, and her prognosis is guarded, according to the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã. The same source indicates that Tyler was admitted on April 30 and that her condition was stable until it worsened last Wednesday.
“We know that all her family, friends, and followers will be worried about this news and will wish her the best for a quick and full recovery,” her team added in the brief message with which they wanted to make the situation known.
After achieving international fame in the late 1970s, Bonnie Tyler consolidated her career in the following years. It was with Lost in France that she managed to reach the general public, followed by other later hits such as It’s a Heartache and the iconic Total Eclipse of the Heart.

During her professional journey, she also suffered some health problems that affected her trajectory in the entertainment world. In 1977, shortly after starting, she had to undergo surgery for nodules on her vocal cords, changing her way of singing forever. Determined to return to the stage immediately, she did not follow the doctors’ recommendations, and her vocal cords healed in a peculiar way, giving her her most characteristic register.

Bonnie Tyler’s daily life was away from the media spotlight in the Algarve. In Portuguese lands, she found the necessary tranquility for her partial retirement, although she does not stay away from music.
One of the latest milestones in her career was her participation in Eurovision 2013, where she represented the United Kingdom in an edition that went down in history. Despite being one of the most established stars to have passed through the contest, she could only achieve 19th place with 23 points in the grand final held in Malmö (Sweden). Although she achieved a modest result on the scoreboard, she received several recognitions from critics and the public, who valued her bravery.
