Fine of 10,000 euros for starting a brawl on a Ryanair flight between London and Ibiza

A court in Toulouse has sentenced two passengers on a Ryanair flight to pay a fine of 10,000 euros for the brawl they caused on the route between London and Ibiza. The altercation was of such magnitude that the plane had to divert to land at Toulouse airport, where the two passengers were forced to disembark from the aircraft. The court also sentences each of them to 10 months in prison, although they will not go to jail as the execution has been suspended.

The airline does not provide details of the flight circumstances, but, practically at the same dates and during the same route, another passenger posted a video on Tik Tok showing tourists bound for Ibiza drunk inside the plane; they were shouting, playing music, dancing, and hitting the seats and the floor of the plane in mid-flight. “We board the plane, it takes off and just when it is in the air, people start getting up, shouting, jumping…”, said the other passenger in the video.

Ryanair has welcomed the sentence, which confirms that the two passengers behaved “abusively” towards the other customers and did not comply with the instructions given by the six crew members. The disturbance was of such scale that the captain decided to divert the plane, with 184 passengers on board, to Toulouse airport.

“It is unacceptable that passengers, many of whom travel with family or friends to enjoy their summer holidays, suffer unnecessary interruptions and a reduction of their rest time as a result of the behavior of disruptive passengers,” says a company spokesperson. “We hope this measure will serve to deter future disruptive behavior on board, so that passengers and crew can travel in a comfortable and respectful environment,” they conclude.
