The price of gasoline continues its upward trend. In its eleventh consecutive week of increases, it has reached a new annual high, while diesel has resumed its climbs to cancel out much of the tax cuts due to the activation of the safeguard mechanism in September.

Specifically, the average price per liter of gasoline has climbed this week to 1.866 euros, after rising 2.88% compared to last week. With this new increase, the price of gasoline accumulates a rise of almost 30% since the end of June. It thus consolidates the overtaking of the cost of diesel.
For its part, the average price per liter of diesel, which last week recorded its first decline in more than two months, has rebounded 2.17% compared to last week, to stand at 1.834 euros, according to data from the European Union’s Petroleum Bulletin consulted by Europa Press.
However, last week’s decline in diesel reflected changes in the special hydrocarbon tax (IEH), which in the case of this fuel since September 1 raised its discount to 20 cents per liter due to the sharp rise in its price in July, while in the case of gasoline the discount was updated from 10 cents to 5 cents per liter.

With this week’s prices, filling an average 55-liter gasoline tank currently costs about 102.63 euros, about 21 euros more than a year ago, when it was 81.56 euros. For diesel, it costs 100.87 euros, about 23.3 euros more than a year ago, when it was about 77.55 euros.
Despite the upward trend in recent months since the outbreak of the conflict in Iran, both fuels have always remained far from the highs recorded in the summer of 2022, in July, when gasoline reached 2.141 euros and diesel 2.1 euros.
