Anthropic PBC CEO Dario Amodei stated on Saturday in a statement that the artificial intelligence industry must slow down the pace of developing new models due to growing concerns about risks to humans.

“We must slow down the speed at which we improve AI model capabilities,” he wrote in a blog post. “Progress will still seem fast, and we must wisely use the time we gain.”
He cited two main factors: AI’s ability to self-improve, as well as the recent incident between OpenAI and Hugging Face, where a group of AI agents secretly formed an alliance to attack targets they were not assigned.

“To be clear, slowing development does not mean stopping model training or technical progress, but ensuring companies take the necessary time to align and secure their models, and that external evaluators confirm this,” he added.
