The Madrid City Council announced this Friday that travel on the buses of the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) and on bicimad will be free on September 7 and 8, coinciding with the return to school activity after the summer holidays.

Travelers must validate their transport ticket and those without one will receive a free single ticket from the driver, except for the Airport Express line, which is excluded.
In the case of bicimad, all trips up to 30 minutes will be free.
Promoting public transport
For the city council, the free service is one of the most effective initiatives to encourage the use of public transport in the capital.

During the 83 free days carried out so far, grouped into 32 periods, more than 96.61 million travelers have been recorded, with over 18 million occasional users of the service.
The City Council has stated in a press release that it will maintain this measure on high-demand days and during episodes of high pollution with the aim of continuing to promote the use of public transport and bicycles as alternatives to private vehicles, reducing congestion and emissions, and advancing towards more sustainable mobility.
