At its peak, the smoke plume was visible from some parts of the city of Barcelona. The reason, a fire that broke out on Montjuïc mountain, in the Catalan capital, which has been stabilized at 7 p.m. and has burned vegetation in the area of the mountain’s lighthouse path. The fire caused the evacuation of Montjuïc Castle. The cable car service was also suspended as a precaution. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

According to sources from the Barcelona City Council informed La Vanguardia, four water vehicles from the Barcelona Fire Department, three command vehicles, an ambulance, and a drone service were dispatched to the scene. Aerial resources from the Generalitat Fire Department were also activated to try to extinguish the fire, which was stabilized around 7 p.m. this afternoon.

According to these same sources, the fire was not large, but it broke out in a steep, difficult-to-access area. Hence the activation of aerial resources. For now, the causes are unknown.
