A new fire in Collserola, in stabilization phase, forces the evacuation of Torre Baró residents

In just ten days, the Collserola mountain range caught fire again. This time, the fire was more virulent than the previous fire that started in Sarrià. Yesterday, it was the residents of Nou Barris, from the neighborhoods of Ciutat Meridiana and Torre Baró, who watched with greater anguish the proximity of flames that ravaged a perimeter of 35 hectares, mostly scrubland, although wooded areas that will take longer to recover have also been lost.

Last night the fire was already in the stabilization phase. The forces of the Generalitat and Barcelona Firefighters and the Rural Agents already know where the fire is burning and where it can advance, and they consider that no other buildings are at risk nor are further evacuations expected. From the morning of this Wednesday, aerial resources will return to control the most active area, and ground forces will enter again with the aim of controlling the fire.

Last night, the firefighting services were working on the two active flanks and were confident in controlling it

The tremendous column of smoke rising over the upper part of the city was visible from so many points that 112 operators received more than a thousand calls. A dense and bothersome smoke forced emergency services, with the collaboration of neighborhood associations, to evacuate 35 residents of Torre Baró, specifically from Castellví and Lliçà streets. None requested alternative housing and all relocated to homes of family and friends. The rest, along with those from Ciutat Meridiana, remained confined in their homes and received a message from Civil Protection on their phones indicating that it was a precautionary measure and to facilitate the firefighters’ work.

The collaboration among all the services involved in the emergency was excellent, as highlighted from the command center by Mayor Jaume Collboni. Last night, Rural Agents already estimated about 35 hectares burned, and this Wednesday with daylight they will begin investigating how the flames could have started.

This is the second fire burning in the Barcelona natural park in just ten days

Emergency managers reinforced water lines in a first line of houses in Ciutat Meridiana, the closest to the fire front, although they minimized the risk. But, without the work of aerial resources due to lack of visibility, that presence reassured the neighbors, who kept their windows closed.

The Rural Agents take extreme precautions due to African swine fever

The Generalitat’s Rural Agents have taken extreme precautions against African swine fever (ASF) due to the fire in Collserola this Tuesday, as it affects a zone considered high risk. In a message on X, they inform that to prevent the spread of the virus, they have activated biosecurity protocols and deployed disinfection teams for vehicles and emergency equipment.

Throughout the day and night, the roads leading to the park, bus lines, and access points remained closed, as well as paths that, despite the temperatures, were full at that time with walkers, cyclists, and runners.
