The apartment that had terrified the neighbors of the building at number 107 Muntaner Street in Barcelona was vacated yesterday. The Mossos d’Esquadra arrested just before four in the afternoon the alleged ringleader of this squatting. His quarrelsome attitude had intimidated most of the people living in the building.

The Generalitat police detailed in a statement that the arrest was made in compliance with a judicial ruling following an investigation by the Mossos from the Eixample district related to the alleged crimes of home invasion, threats, and coercion. “In this context, the judicial authority ordered a search and entry into the home. The result is one person arrested.”
Shortly after the arrest, a woman who had also settled in this apartment and was part of the control apparatus of what was happening in the building voluntarily left. However, although the neighbors breathed more easily yesterday, this story is not over yet.

The community installed a camera and hired a security guard. They did not even dare to start the facade renovation because installing scaffolding made them very uneasy.

It is actually a tremendously convoluted story. The neighbors already explained that the apartment in question belonged to a lawyer from the upper part of the city who had it rented out. A few months ago, he moved into his home, but with a very deteriorated appearance that gave the neighbors a very bad feeling. That was when the influx of drug addicts that made this community miserable began. Parties until the early hours of the morning were common, as were fights, shouting, and arguments. At the end of spring, one day the property owner left.

And the man now arrested and the woman who just left voluntarily took control of the apartment. They soon tapped the electricity, broke the parking lot bathroom to access a faucet. Their agreement with the owner was never clear. Meanwhile, the situation in the stairwell continued to worsen.
The truth is that this matter caught the authorities very off guard. In fact, it was even thought that the owner had died, and this was believed even by the police who could not find him. The repeated complaints from the community did not lead the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Urban Guard to ensure the safety of this building until it reached the media.

The City Council finally contacted him. Yesterday he was able to recover his property and return. The neighbors still have their fingers crossed.
