A firefighter from the Military Emergency Unit (UME) died this Sunday in an accident while collaborating in the extinguishing tasks of the Las Peñas de Riglos fire, in Huesca.

The incident occurred on the Bernués road, when the vehicle carrying several personnel overturned for reasons that are still under investigation. In addition to the deceased, three other people have been injured, although no further details about their condition have been released so far, although they are said to have suffered injuries of varying severity.
The accident occurred during an intervention against a fire that has mobilized a large emergency device in the province of Huesca. More than 570 UME soldiers and around 170 resources are currently working on different tasks related to the extinguishing and control of the fire, which has required maintaining a significant deployment over the last few days.

The President of the Government of Aragón, Jorge Azcón, has expressed his condolences to the lieutenant general of the Military Emergency Unit and to the family of the deceased firefighter. “I have conveyed my deepest condolences to the lieutenant general of the Military Emergency Unit for the death of a soldier in the Las Peñas de Riglos fire,” Azcón said in a statement published on social media.
“We started the CECOPI with a minute of silence in his memory. All my love and support to his family, his colleagues, and the entire UME in these moments of deep sorrow,” the Aragonese leader assured.
