At least two women have died and two minors are injured as a result of a flood and a landslide recorded this Saturday in the towns of Manzanedo de Valdueza and Bouzas, belonging to the Leonese municipality of Ponferrada, sources from the Government Subdelegation and municipal authorities have informed EFE.

A brutal storm struck the area this afternoon causing the Meruelo river to overflow and triggering a flood and a landslide that reached Manzanedo de Valdueza and Bouzas. The Emergency Coordination Center of the Civil Protection and Emergency Agency has also activated the rescue helicopter to assist in search and evacuation efforts, where several ambulances and medical personnel from the Continuous Care Point (PAC) are already present.
Although the initial information from the 1-1-2 Emergency Service indicated that several people were missing and injured, after locating the bodies of these two women, aged 60 and 80, the Subdelegation has confirmed that there are no longer any missing persons in the area.

Intervention efforts continue in the area, where emergency services maintain a large operation deployed to assist those affected and assess the damage caused by the flood and landslide. The force of the water has again caused damage to the roads in the area and the road connecting the town of Peñalba de Santiago, usually affected by landslides, has been cut off.
