Zelenski claims new attacks against two refineries on Russian territory

Ukrainian drones continue to punish the Russian rear. Their attacks reached two refineries located hundreds of kilometers from the border and the battlefront this Thursday, said the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. Russian authorities confirmed a fire at one of the two facilities. It was one of the largest waves of drones against Russian territory in a war that has lasted almost four and a half years.

Zelensky said in a message on Telegram that the complexes attacked by his forces’ unmanned devices were the Bashneft-Novoil plant, in the Republic of Bashkortostan (Volga basin), and Slavneft-Yanos, in the Yaroslavl Oblast, about 250 kilometers northwest of Moscow.

The governor of the latter region, Mikhail Yevrayev, reported that after the shooting down of several drones, their debris fell into a plant storage and caused a fire. “Due to the fallen debris, there was an impact on the refinery tanks. Emergency services are working to extinguish the fire,” he explained.

Four people were injured by shrapnel impacts, added the politician. “Three private houses also caught fire, windows of several apartment buildings were broken, and there is damage to private cars of the region’s residents,” he lamented.

In total, Russian defenses shot down 605 drones from Wednesday night to Thursday morning, published the Russian Ministry of Defense. Ukrainian drones attacked 18 Russian regions in one of the largest offensives of this war. On June 26, the downed drones totaled 660.

In one of the attacked regions, the border Bryansk Oblast, Ukrainian drones killed two people and caused five injuries, assured its governor, Yegor Kovalchuk.

Kyiv also tried to reach a Wildberries logistics center, the Russian Amazon, in the Tver region. The warehouses of the main e-commerce company in Russia have suffered about twenty attacks since mid-July. Zelensky maintains that through this company the Russian army receives components for drones and other military equipment.
